Contractors:
The applicant's qualifying party must submit evidence of experience required for the license classification being sought (two to four years), as well as passing both a trade and a business and law exam with a minimum score of 75%. A 20-hour course taken from a school approved by the division may be substituted for the business law examinations.
A license bond, cash collateral or audited financial statement is required to establish financial responsibility. The amount of the bond ranges from $500 to $5,000 and is based on the anticipated dollar level of individual projects or permits in the state. There is no consumer financial protection. Licenses are issued for a three-year period.
A certificate of competence is required for any journeyman performing electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing work. Fees are inclusive of gross receipt tax.
Some classifications may require multiple exams.
